Our Hospitals
VCU Children’s Medical Center is a pediatric “hospital-within-a-hospital” and is the only full-service pediatric healthcare facility in central Virginia. VCU Children’s faculty and staff are devoted to providing child-centered comprehensive pediatric health care, educational experiences in all aspects of pediatric medicine, and life saving research initiatives.
Our pediatric team consists of a comprehensive network of primary care physicians, nurses, pediatric specialists, surgeons, therapists, child life specialists, social workers, and ancillary medical staff, all of whom are trained specifically to care for children. Our team provides nearly 50 medical, surgical, and support services for children and teens from birth to age 21. Our wide-ranging services span every imaginable diagnosis, such as diabetes, asthma, cancer, cardiac problems, cystic fibrosis, as well as injuries sustained from traumatic events.
Not only do we treat the medical needs of children-but we treat the whole child. VCU Children’s provides its patients and families with a wide range of support services including child life, hospital education, and social work. The team at VCU Children’s strives to treat every child like their own.
The mission of Children’s Hospital is to be a resource and provider of specialized medical and therapeutic services customized to meet the specific needs of children and their families. Children’s Hospital is a specialty pediatric facility that focuses on the treatment of various medical conditions from short term needs to chronic conditions. Specialized services include a Transitional Care Unit, Children’s Feeding Program, a dental program and a variety of outpatient, therapy and support services offered at the hospital’s main location on Brook Road and three community-based therapy centers. The hospital’s family-centered approach to care continually emphasizes the role of family members as active partners on all patient care teams.
