Happy Holidays from Children's Miracle Network Richmond!
We at Children’s Miracle Network Richmond thank all of our wonderful supporters that contribute year round to help make miracles for the children of central Virginia. We wish you the happiest and healthiest of holidays!
In the spirit of the holiday season, we share with you the past, present and future miracles of Children’s Miracle Network Richmond.
Miracles of the Past:A wonderful place for this story to start, is “Keep the Change for Kids” hosted by Walmart. In the month of January, local Walmart and Sam’s Club locations introduced a “Keep the Change for Kids” program where cashiers encouraged customers to round up their shopping total to the nearest dollar. Just a few pennies added up to make “change” in a child’s life, and participating stores raised over $32,000!
To continue our journey through miracles from before, we take you to the story of Champions and more!
In March, Children’s Miracle Network, Walmart and Sam’s Club presented the 2009 “Champions Across America” program. A Champion, a child with a remarkable medical story, was chosen from each state to serve as an ambassador for the 17 million children who are treated at Children’s Miracle Network hospitals each year.
Matthew McMillen, Virginia’s Champion, once treated at VCU Children’s Medical Center and Children’s Hospital, visited Walt Disney World and traveled to Capitol Hill to share his story of medical victory with legislatures, congressmen, and the President. Matthew’s visit along with the other state champions proved the importance of our nation’s children’s hospitals.
Last on our list of this past miracles rhyme, is selling cold LemonAid one glass at a time.
For the eighth consecutive summer, Richmond-ers came together to help make miracles happen in our community. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield partnered with Children’s Miracle Network Richmond to bring Anthem LemonAid, a “kids helping kids” fundraiser, to the families, community organizations and businesses of Richmond. With close to 900 LemonAid stands registered and the support of the community, more than $100,000 was raised to help “put the squeeze” on pediatric cancer.
