Dance Marathon puts the FUN in Fundraising
The Children’s Miracle Network Dance Marathon is a fast growing program among 170 colleges and universities and over 50 high schools in the United States. These schools raise funds to benefit their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Every year since inception in 1991, students dedicate their time to year–round planning and fundraising that culminates on one day with a huge celebration “For The Kids”.
While each individual school hosts a unique event, participants stand on their feet anywhere from 12 to 48 hours in honor of children and their families who have overcome great medical challenges. To date, these student run events have raised $6,000,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Dance Marathons have become long traditions on many campuses and communities, while the program continues to grow with new schools each year.
In the central Virginia area, local schools have engaged in this philanthropic tradition to support Children’s Miracle Network Richmond’s hospitals: VCU Children’s Medical Center and Children’s Hospital. On March 13, 2010, Randolph–Macon College will host its 9th Annual Dance Marathon on campus. The 12–hour event involves over 350 students and has raised more than $168,000 since 2001. To learn more about Randolph–Macon’s event, make a donation or become a corporate sponsor, please email or visit the Children’s Miracle Network Richmond’s events page.
Other local 2009 Dance Marathons included Henrico County’s Deep Run and Godwin High Schools. Together these dedicated students raised $17,500 for Children’s Miracle Network Richmond.
