Local Brother's of Theta Chi Fraternity Take a Ride

February 2008

Theta Chi’s First Annual Bike the Ball held Saturday, February 16, was an amazing event. More than 30 riders from both the VCU and ODU chapters of Theta Chi cycled the game basketball from Norfolk, VA to Richmond, VA, raising money for Children’s Miracle Network-Richmond. The event, a 115 mile relay bicycle ride, began at noon on the ODU campus and culminated at the VCU Siegel Center at 7:30 p.m. for the game tip-off. Chapter members delivered the game basketball for the CAA conference game between VCU and ODU.

These students raised more than $4,000 for Children’s Miracle Network-Richmond. After taking a tour of the VCU Children’s Medical Center; one of the two hospitals supported by Children’s Miracle Network; Theta Chi members presented their check to Rachel Westcott, Children’s Miracle Network Coordinator. Fraternity members engaged the community through sponsorships and donations to help raise funds.  Local companies including, KOBE Japanese Steakhouse, W.M. Jordan, Mechanicsville Honda, Xtreme Pizza, Great Wraps, Qudoba, Futron Company, Strawberry Street Foods, The Wave Inc., friends and families from the central Virginia area, helped to make the Theta Chi’s First Annual Bike the Ball a success.

“The Virginia Commonwealth University and Old Dominion chapters of Theta Chi Fraternity were extremely excited to participate in the First Annual Bike the Ball and support Children’s Miracle Network-Richmond,” said VCU Theta Chi’s Philanthropy Chair Aaron Page.  “Our motto is to ‘Extend a Helping Hand’ and we feel there is no better way to do this than with this charity.”
