Anthem LemonAid- Statewide Efforts to “Put the Squeeze” on Pediatric Cancer Contributed Over $217,000.00 to Local Hospitals

August 2009

For the 8th Annual Anthem LemonAid, we partnered with our neighboring Children’s Miracle Network member hospitals in the Norfolk and Roanoke-Lynchburg areas in a statewide effort to “put the squeeze” on pediatric cancer!

In their first year hosting Anthem LemonAid, we are happy to announce they contributed over $80,000.00 to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, Carillion Clinic Children’s Hospital and Virginia Baptist Hospital for pediatric cancer treatment!

In central Virginia, our devoted and committed community members set a goal of $120,000.00 selling cold glasses of Anthem LemonAid as well as virtual cups through the Online LemonAid Stand! We are so fortunate to announce that with almost 900 stands hosted, the Richmond community exceeded their goal raising over $137,000.00 for our member hospitals; VCU Children’s Medical Center and Children’s Hospital.

We would to thank everyone who participated in this event by setting up a lemonade stand, purchasing lemonade, volunteering or supporting in any way. You will truly make a difference for the children of central Virginia battling pediatric cancer.

We also would to thank our 2009 Anthem LemonAid sponsors-Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, M&T Bank, Radio Disney AM 1290, EZ Box, Lite 98, Joey’s Hot Dogs, the Virginia Food Bank, Kangaroo Jacs and Jason’s Deli.

Congratulations to Mitch Elliot, the winner of our Most Festive Stand Contest. Mitch and his family set up their tropical themed stand in front of Walmart in Ashland, where he made balloon animals and other special treats for customers while they enjoyed their cup of lemonade. You can view Mitch’s stand below.

Congratulations to Food Lion, the winner of the 2009 Business Challenge. All local Food Lion stores participated with stands and raised $22,500.00!
